About Dave Stasney
– Owner, The Career Shop
The Career Shop was built on one belief: you cannot fake industry experience. Having been both a recruiter and a tradesperson, that hands on background shapes every search we take on.
The journey began leading field crews for one of Canada’s largest general contractors on a heavy civil telecom project across nine states, where work ethic and dependability were non-negotiable. Time as a union carpenter and concrete finisher followed, learning to read blueprints, meet deadlines, solve problems on site, and stay accountable to the crew.
I co-founded a property preservation firm during the housing crash, where hundreds of REO properties were managed on behalf of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and local credit unions. That work opened the door to new markets through partnerships with HOAs and property managers in both residential and commercial restoration and reconstruction. Along the way, earning a mortgage broker license added critical insight into how projects are funded and where financial pressure points tend to surface. A later move into business development for a mechanical engineering design firm involved managing pre bid walkthroughs, proposals, and energy services including ASHRAE audits, energy modeling, and commissioning.
Recruiting became the next chapter. After helping build out multiple verticals, training recruiters, and driving long term relationship-based hiring, the result was a VP role earned through performance and trust.
This full circle path of experiences fuels how The Career Shop delivers for clients and candidates. It’s truly the main ingredient of what sets The Career Shop apart. We know the work, speak the language, and understand what makes a strong hire.
Originally from the Twin Cities, Colorado has been my home since 2005. Life today is based in Boulder County with my wife and two daughters. Most of our free time goes into their sports and activities, with lake days and mountain trips when we can squeeze them in.

How do I connect with candidates?
It starts with a conversation. When possible, we would like to visit your company in person. That helps us understand your culture leadership style and the story we will be sharing with potential candidates. It is a two-way street, and we want both sides to get it right. We then tap into our network of vetted professionals and begin outreach. We present only the candidates who meet your criteria and align with your company culture. Less is more. Measure twice cut once applies here. From there we guide you through interviews feedback and the offer process.
